Parshat Vayelech - פרשת וילך

"And now write for you this song" (Vayelech 31:19). This pasuk contains the last commandment in the Torah - to write a Torah scroll. The Chafetz Chaim noted that this mitzvah comes right after the verse which states that Hashem will hide His presence from the people because of their aveirot. The reason this commandment follows the previous verse is to teach us that even in times of darkness and destruction when one engages in Torah study one will find much light and consolation. Alright, I have to run! Have a beautiful Shabbat!

How this blog gets to you

I am a religious Jew born and raised in London, England who has immigrated to Israel.

I am currrently studying Political Science together with Communications and Journalism at the Hebrew University, having previously worked as a journalist during an internship for The Jerusalem Post.

Prior to that, I served voluntarily in the Mahal Hesder programme, a 3.5-year course whereby one learns in Yeshiva for a year and a half, serves in the IDF for 14.5 months, and then goes back to learning in Yeshiva for a further 10 months. I studied in Yeshivat Hakotel in the Old City of Jerusalem and then served in the IDF in a combat capacity as a tank driver in the 401st Armoured Brigade, as well as temporarily working in intelligence.

This blog aims to cover all things Israeli from the perspective of an English-speaking immigrant entrenched in Western values and culture, but who is an Orthodox Jew at core.
